HeadBlade Moto Head and Skull Shaving Razor

No-mirror head shaving

Sufferers of premature male pattern baldness usually start off trimming to selectively hide the loss, then eventually move to buzzing their head. There are a a lot of great wireless buzzers out there, but if you want to actually shave down to the skin, most people end up just using razors intended for your face. I did this for years and suffered thousands of nicks as well as a gash that ruined a headshot photo. No matter how careful you are, face/neck razors aren’t designed for the weird angles of a skull and shaving without visual cues (or with mirror-reversed cues) is hard.

The HeadBlade Moto ($12) is designed exclusively for head shaving and it’s very good at it. You loop two fingers through it, and the index finger presses straight down above the blade, allowing you to get micro-close on any part of your head. Based on the Amazon reviews, it’s popular with those serving in the military. The sensation of using the Moto is entirely tactile, I could perfectly shave my head with it in pitch darkness and I no longer use a mirror which means I can just shave in the shower and not worry about clearnup. I’ve found it so enjoyable to use and speedy that I now shave my head almost every day. The price for replacement blades is comparable to a neck razor and I recommend using Headblade’s own Headslick shaving cream as well as a post-shave balm like Bee Bald to keep your skin happy.

Editor’s note: Here’s a video of a guy using one:
