I have a friend who is 92.  I need an answering machine for him that is simple to use, has very obvious controls with reasonably loud and clear playback.

I saw this one at Target.com – it has pretty decent reviews: http://www.target.com/p/at-t-1740-digital-answering-machine-with-time-and-day-stamp-white/-/A-14048572

So many products, even low-tech products like answering machines, aren’t very senior-friendly. Best wishes to you and your friend.

I would look at the Clarity brand. (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/CLARITY-Amplified-Cordless-Digital-Answering/dp/B005OJCYBK/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1479500099&sr=8-9&keywords=Clarity+amplified)

I have NOT used their answering machines, but I have used their ampolified senior-oriented phones for seevral Elderly Relatives (3 so far) and they were all very pleased.

(Note – I have NO connection to Clarity, other than being a customer)

Clarity designs their phones for Hearing/Vision Impaired Seniors.

I hope this helps.
