Do you have any experience with renting or purchasing a satellite phone?

There seem to be three carriers, one of them using stationary sats. Does anyone have experience with more than one carrier, or can make an informed recommendation about the best/cheapest way to get a sat phone for a month?

I can't help with cost knowledge, but in use, geosync (stationary) systems have a propagation delay that's very difficult to adjust to conversationally (23k miles out & back slows things down a lot). And I was using the Iridium system recently in the Canadian Rockies - the mountainous horizon made it difficult to sustain a connection for very long (low orbit heights and high speed made call handoffs between "cells" extra tricky).
