I've always wanted to construct, wire, and decorate a dollhouse. How do I get started?

I learned some things about doll houses by repairing a friend’s. It was made from a kit and done somewhat poorly and incompletely.

Why don’t you start with a kit. It will help you judge your existing skills and test whether you have the enduring interest in continuing with the hobby. The wiring will be more complex and involved, so you should wait until you can at least put a kit together successfully.

I find doll houses fascinating.  I recently had this discussion with my sister who was interested in putting together one.  I’ve done a fair amount of business with Banggood, a Chinese company and saw doll houses on sale at their website.  Pretty amazing pictures, with led wiring and all that good stuff. She ordered one a couple weeks ago, hasn’t received it yet.  Ordering through these companies is a lesson in patience, but Banggood hasn’t disappointed me,  they have always delivered and the quality is up to or exceeds my expectations.  To my thinking a kit would be a good starting point.  Take a look at the accessories they offer, like the treadle sewing machine.  I figure worst case my sister will get her money’s worth in entertainment time spent assembling the kit.  Have fun.

A followup to this:  my sister tells me the dollhouse arrived and the quality is very good.  Half the fun of some of these things is being able to give them away when you get tired of them.
