I keep pens (+ other desktop tools I frequently use) in large ceramic or plastic jars on my desk.  Once or twice a year I'll take something out to use  and find that it (and my hand) are then covered in ink from one of the other pens in there that decided to leak.  I then spend half an hour looking for the guilty party (i.e.  pen) which is discarded, and cleaning off all the other instruments.

Any better storage suggestions for such items?

For my experience, it is more common the pens that are oriented with point down to leak.

You may store the ones that are mostly liked to leak with the point up.

To minimize the eventual leak, you may put a foam in the bottom of ”jar” to absorb any ink.
