Quietest Ceiling Fan?

I actually removed a Harbor Breeze from my son's room and got him a Hunter instead. The Hunter models are very quiet; one in my daughter's room can go full-on and the only noise you will hear is the rustling of any objects moved by the breeze created by the fan.

I would recommend avoiding the gimmicky Hunter models -- think kid's models with painted light bowls -- and look at the higher-end ones. All Hunter fans come with the hardware necessary to hang the fan to a well-secured fan or service metal box; most allow you to decide at install if you want to include the light accessory as well. Flush mount as well as extension mount is included, and once you install one you can install any.

You may need to balance the fan blades, and Hunter only gives minimal guidance on how to accomplish that (trial and error). I'd be very interested in a solid method for balancing the ceiling fan blades. I know helicopter blade balances are done during operation with ball bearings, but I don't think we have that option here.

I also have had 2 hunter ceiling fans over the years and have been impressed with how quiet they are. I too would stick with the better quality models. I bought my first hunter 20 years ago when I lived in Houston and the other 3 years ago. Big difference but still quiet.

My house has 5 Casablanca fans. They have operated silently and reliably for 20 years. Casablanca is the only brand I have owned and I don't have a reason to change that.

As an electrical contractor I will tell you that cost will definitely impact quietness and quality of constructions / materials. Hunters are ok but look at some high end lighting supply houses for ideas / brands. Another option to consider if all you want to do is turn the air over in the room is to use a remotely mounted exhaust fan and take the supply and exhasut from different end of the bedroom. Moutning the fan remotely wll definitely minimize the noise! good luck!

Ditto on Casablanca....have used several brands and they are the quietest fans I've experienced. Expensive but worth it.

Hunter fans from 20 years ago may have been ok then but they are junk now. I bought 3 Hunters for various rooms. Various sizes, wired correctly, no dimmer switches and run by a wall switch. All 3 fans provide this electrical hum loud enough to compete with normal daytime house noise and always can be heard as a hum in a quiet home. They are junk and now use junk for motor components.
