Perhaps there is someone out there saying "Why didn't I think of that?" and the "that" in this case is something you thought of.

Each of us has the ability to be creative if we let ourselves be. Maybe you are the one at home who is responsible for taking the trash bag out to the trash can. After a few times digging under the sink for a new bag, you come upon the idea of stashing a few bags at the bottom of the trash can under the current bag. Maybe you are the one who thinks to spray his shovel with a cooking spray before digging sticky clay soil. Or perhaps it is your idea to drop extra batteries in your camera case.

So maybe the best answer to your question is, instead of asking "Why didn't I think of that?" start asking "Why don't I think of that?"
