Custom Molded Earplugs
Easy way to make custom fit in-ear headphones
I’m not in great shape but I do love to get outdoors and be active. This includes the occasional run or swim, daily bike rides to work and stand up paddle boarding. I also love to listen to music/podcasts while doing the above activities. I even obtained a pair of waterproof headphones/ipod shuffle for swimming/stand up paddle boarding. As I did all of the above activities, I realized it was difficult to keep the headphone positioned well in my ear. They would often fall out while doing any of the above activities. Then I thought, why not get some custom fit headphones. Then I realized, that has to be crazy expensive and well out of my budget.
I decided to at least do a google search and found multiple websites on how to create homemade custom fit headphones. I searched multiple sites, watched multiple videos and the most common product I found to achieve this, was the Radians Custom Molded Earplugs. I purchased a set for a small sum of just above 10 dollars. I followed the simple instructions to combine the mold and then shoved them into my ears. I took my headphones and removed any rubber ear covering and pushed those into the mold, trying to stay in line with my ear canal. After about 10-15 minutes of not talking or chewing, the mold was set.
The mold had attached nicely to my headphones. I used a paring knife to cut away the extra mold that was covering the area where the sound would come out of the headphones. I was able to get a nice, even sound between my ears and block out most of the other, outside noise. With the mold, these fit perfectly to my ears and I’m able to enjoy music while exercising without making frequent adjustments to my headphones.
This is one of the best and cheapest investments I have made. It was certainly the least expensive option for custom headphones. Even comparing it to other earplug molds, it had the highest reviews and greatest ease of forming a mold. I could also use the headphones I already had, which wasn’t true for most custom fit devices. They have held up very well over many months and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a better listening experience.
