What do you bring when you fly? What do you take with you\u00a0on hikes?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m always curious about the things people bring with them when they travel, whether they are going out for an afternoon or leaving the country for months. I suspect Cool Tools readers have more interesting things than other people do. We&#8217;d like you to share your photos and stories about the things in your bag. To get the ball rolling, I&#8217;ll start with the stuff I take with me when I fly. Chapstick (my lips get dry when I travel, every time). Nailclipper (hangnails drive me berserk). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000QM9KQW\/cooltools-20\">Styptic pencil<\/a> (because for some reason I cut myself shaving much more frequently when I&#8217;m away from home).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/case.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"case\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/case.jpg\" width=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Amazon Basics Electronics Travel Case:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/AmazonBasics-Universal-Electronics-Accessories-cameras\/dp\/B002VPE1QG\/cooltools-20\">$14<\/a>. This small case holds everything in the photo except my laptop, umbrella, and ChicoBag.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/memory.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"memory\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/memory.jpg\" width=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Super Talent 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B001PPPIYM\/cooltools-20\">$14<\/a>. I got a 4GB version a few years ago and since then the price has dropped to the point where the 16GB is less than what I paid for mine. This holds my Keynote presentations in every file format imaginable. It&#8217;s tiny, and I keep in it one of the little zipper compartments of the Amazon case.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/umbrella.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"umbrella\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/umbrella.jpg\" width=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Compact umbrella and ChicoBag:<\/strong>\u00a0I was in Paris last year and it started raining while we were waiting in line for a museum to open. A man with a cardboard box filled with small umbrella materialized, and sold them all for five euros each. I still have the one I bought. (I actually \u00a0keep it in my carry on luggage, but I wanted to include it in this list because I bring it with me on every trip I take.) I can almost hide the nylon ChicoBag (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B006WA9LRA\/cooltools-20\">$17.50 for a four pack<\/a>) in my fist, but it opens to\u00a018&#215;14.5 inches. Great for groceries, carrying my computer, or the beach.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/charging.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"charging\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/charging.jpg\" width=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>USB Charger and USB cables:<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0PowerGen White Dual USB Wall Charger (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B0073FE1F0\/cooltools-20\">$11<\/a>) has a 2.4 Amp outlet that charges phones and tablets fast. The BlueLounge Kii (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B00H8BA1HQ\/cooltools-20\">$20<\/a>) is a keychain USB charger for iPhones and iPads.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/cards.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"cards\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/cards.jpg\" width=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Playing cards and card manipulation book:<\/strong>\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0ridiculous that this miniature edition of S.W. Erdnase&#8217;s classic book on card manipulation is selling for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0974255122\/cooltools-20\">$200<\/a>\u00a0on Amazon.\u00a0You can buy the (admittedly uglier) Dover edition for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0486285979\/cooltools-20\">$9<\/a>. This book, along with a deck of cards, will keep me busy for hours on a flight as I practice different kinds of cuts, shuffles, and double lifts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/snacks.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"snacks\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/snacks.jpg\" width=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Snacks:<\/strong> I don&#8217;t like airplane food. I&#8217;ll either fast or bring along a bag of macadamia nuts (lots of omega-3 oil) and a few Epic Gluten Free Grass Fed Bison Bacon and Cranberry Bars (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B00ESP8TEC\/cooltools-20\">$40 for 12<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/air.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"air\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/cooltools\/files\/2014\/05\/air.jpg\" width=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>11.6-inch MacBook Air:<\/strong>\u00a0Some people manage to get by with a tablet when they are on the road, but I need a real computer. The 11.6-inch MacBook Air (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B00746YZS6\/cooltools-20\">$860<\/a>) has everything I need. I keep it in a STM neoprene Glove (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B004M04SWU\/cooltools-20\">$30<\/a>). I also bring a USB\u00a0Ethernet adapter (for hotel Internet because WiFi in hotel rooms is usually slow)\u00a0and a VGA adapter (I put my email address on it so I can get it back if I forget it). The charger cable is shielded with split loom tubing (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B001762LIA\/cooltools-20\">$12 for 100 feet<\/a>) so my cats won&#8217;t bite it. I picked up the reading glasses in Little Tokyo (Los Angeles) for a few bucks.<\/p>\n<p>OK, now it&#8217;s your turn.
