But because of its language barrier it’s really hard for foreigners to book tickets for either. The best way to book a flight in China is via the English language site Ctrip, which I use. Easy to make reservations, changes, refunds. I can skype a call to them if needed. For trains I use the English language site Travel China Guide — KK

Learning:
Maker Update is a new YouTube show where host Donald Bell presents his favorite maker projects, kits, and tools. Episodes are less than 10 minutes and are well-produced. — MF

App:
When I have an idea of what I want, but don’t want to go searching for it at the mall, I use my ShopStyle app (iOS, Android). I can filter my search according to keyword description, color, size, price, brand, department store, etc. The “Tailored Shop” updates daily and personalizes a store based on past searches and favorites — perfect for virtual “window shopping.” — CL

Listenable:
My favorite podcast these days is Reply All. It’s sort of Wired in audible format. Smart, surprising stories about the culture around digital technology. They are especially good in chasing down internet “mysteries.” Just for example, listen to episode #76 which is about the Google ad scam around lost phones; it goes way deep. Each episode never fails to enlighten and entertain me. — KK

Tip:
I use a non-locking carabiner, kind of like this one, to hold all my key rings. I can quickly and easily unclip my excess keys while I’m driving to keep them from jangling. — CL

Anti-boredom:
I always carry a deck of cards. Not to play card games, but to practice sleight of hand. It’s easy to have a conversation and at the same time, and it prevents me from fidgeting.
