Don’t Try to Be Someone Else<\/strong>
\n\u201cYour goal is not to be Winston Churchill or Nelson Mandela. It\u2019s to be you. If you\u2019re a scientist, be a scientist; don\u2019t try to be an activist. If you\u2019re an artist, be an artist; don\u2019t try to be an academic. If you\u2019re just an ordinary person, don\u2019t try to fake some big intellectual style; just be you. You don\u2019t have to raise a crowd to its feet with a thunderous oration. Conversational sharing can work just as well. In fact, for most audiences, it\u2019s a lot better. If you know how to talk to a group of friends over dinner, then you know enough to speak publicly.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Power of Silence<\/strong>
\n\u201cWhen you pause, your audience thinks about your message and reflects. Pausing builds an audiences\u2019 confidence. If you don\u2019t pause, your audience doesn\u2019t have time to digest what you\u2019ve told them and hence, they will not remember a word of what you\u2019ve said.\u201d<\/p>\n
