I started buying\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/geni.us\/lighter-cubes?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">Weber Lighter Cubes<\/a>\u00a0instead. They\u2019re the size of an ice cube and ignite charcoal briquettes even faster than newspaper. \u2014 MF<\/p>\n<p><strong>Text-only NPR<\/strong><br \/>\nA few years ago, Mark recommended the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.recomendo.com\/posts\/text-only-cnn?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">no-graphics version<\/a>\u00a0of CNN\u2019s website and I just recently discovered the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/text.npr.org\/?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">text-only version of NPR<\/a>. It\u2019s a sophisticated feel-good comedy drama that we really needed in 2020. It\u2019s full of no cliche, no sap, smart positivity that is rare and so welcomed. The world would be a better place if there were more Ted Lassos. The show is very bingeable. I\u2019m eager for more seasons. The 10-part first season runs on Apple TV. If you\u2019ve bought an Apple product in the past year (or know someone who did), you may have free access to Apple TV. \u2014 KK<\/p>\n<p><strong>Play the blues with your mouse<\/strong><br \/>\nEven if you\u2019ve never held a guitar, you can have fun playing a blues lead on this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/codepen.io\/gregh\/full\/zNzvOm\/?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">simple web app<\/a>. Just press the play button to start the backing track and roll your cursor over the buttons at the top of the page. You can\u2019t make a bad sound. If you\u2019re aware of a more sophisticated virtual lead guitar app, let me know! \u2014 MF<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charting conceptual history<\/strong><br \/>\nGoogle\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/ngrams?utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=Revue%20newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">Ngram<\/a>\u00a0is a nifty tool for researching historical word use, such as the first use of a word\/phrase, or how its popularity changes over time. Ngram is 10 years old, but it got a significant upgrade last year so now it includes a lot more old books. I use Ngram to visualize \u2014 to a first approximation \u2014 the relative importance of a concept over time. Its cool interface lets me click on a date range, and then it will show me excerpts from the historical books from that date with that word or phrase. \u2014 KK<\/p>\n<p><strong>Better way to practice being grateful<\/strong><br \/>\nWe have been practicing gratitude all wrong. Instead of noting what you are grateful for, you should try \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.viacharacter.org\/topics\/articles\/learn-how-to-appreciate-what-you-already-have?trk_contact=LUJQD4LQTK78MQFCBO0G4PK358&amp;trk_msg=AQ1BVRRB3CQ4FAG7K5ISE6NGT4&amp;trk_sid=BIMM69N2CUG90JB7DRMBSU0E8O&amp;utm_campaign=Recomendo&amp;utm_content=3_a_better_way_to_boost_happiness&amp;utm_medium=read_more_text_link&amp;utm_source=listrak_oct_newsletter\" target=\"_blank\">mental subtraction<\/a>\u201d and think of one positive event or aspect of your life and then mentally take it away.
