{"id":2800,"date":"2008-05-05T12:21:54","date_gmt":"2008-05-05T12:21:54","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2011-07-08T20:52:55","modified_gmt":"2011-07-08T14:52:55","slug":"poptimistic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tkdev.kk.org\/ct2\/poptimistic\/","title":{"rendered":"Poptimistic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nIn a recent Boing Boing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boingboing.net\/2008\/05\/05\/bbtv-speed-racer-is-1.html\">interview<\/a> special effects guru John Gaeta dropped a fantastic new word: Poptomistic.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/ct2\/Picture%2047.png\" height=\"60\" width=\"444\" border=\"0\" align=\"middle\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Picture 47\" \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nPoptimistic is not his coinage; it seems to be circulating in the design and style world, but I think it perfectly captures the upbeat, day-glo brightness of a technicolor future. It manages to contain many of the optimistic strands of the digiterati, and the pop masses.&#160; It says: technology that works!\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe new pace-setting film Speed Racer (which Gaeta worked on) is poptomistic.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/ct2\/speedracer.jpg\" height=\"171\" width=\"400\" border=\"0\" align=\"middle\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Speedracer\" \/><span style=\"font-size:12pt;\"><br \/>\n<br \/><\/span><br \/>\n<br \/>It is the opposite of the distopian Blade Runner, even though both are visually outrageous and seminal. The overlook sci-fi cult favorite Fifth Element was slightly poptimistic.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/ct2\/Fifth_element_2.jpg\" height=\"175\" width=\"400\" border=\"0\" align=\"middle\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Fifth Element 2\" \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe book of Japanese street fashions called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0714840831\/kkorg-20\">Fruits<\/a> is poptimistic.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/ct2\/fruits.jpg\" height=\"584\" width=\"400\" border=\"0\" align=\"middle\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Fruits\" \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSo were many of the early issues of Wired magazine.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/ct2\/Wiredman.jpg\" height=\"476\" width=\"400\" border=\"0\" align=\"middle\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Wiredman\" \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd as far as I am concerned the entire instant city of Burning Man is poptimistic.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/kk.org\/ct2\/magic%20bus.jpg\" height=\"273\" width=\"400\" border=\"0\" align=\"middle\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Magic Bus\" \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nPoptimistic is super-saturated richness, hyper-realism, brightly lit in even the furthest corners, up tempo, and generally positive.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWhat else is poptimistic?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a recent Boing Boing interview special effects guru John Gaeta dropped a fantastic new word: Poptomistic.
